“Be prepared and be honest.” –John Wooden

So very much has happened in the last week. News stories, another shooting on a military base, a stabbing at a school, and a friend of ours robbed at gunpoint and their car stolen.

Sigh.

Well, nobody said it would be a life of rainbows and unicorns did they? Maybe somebody did!?!? Well, we better do something to fix that! What does being prepared have to do with the news and the skilled trades? A little bit more than some.

Uncertainty is the new norm. -G. Cardone

In this episode, we take a look at the uncertainty of living, and working in our current times.

Episode 013: Foundations Of Real Success And Contemplating A Change

March 26, 2014

“There are three constants in life… change, choice and principles.” -Steven Covey

  1. On todays podcast, we are going to hit two very important topics.
  2.  The five proven foundational stones to success
  3.  Change is coming for this website and podcast!

About the four success principles, I came across them during my re-reading of one of my absolutely favorite books, The Millionaire Mind (ALERT-Affiliate link) by Thomas J. Stanley. The four principles that I’ll be going into are these:

  • Integrity-being honest with all people
  • Discipline-applying self control

Some Days Are Hard

March 25, 2014

“Perseverance is the hard work you do after you get tired of doing the hard work you already did.”  ― Newt Gingrich

Some days are just a lot harder than others. That is where I’m at right now. I have a mountain of things to get done, and staring at the immensity of it isn’t helping.

I gave my wife this analogy yesterday. It’s as if I am going to start a really big kitchen remodel. This is the kind of project you can really sink your teeth into. Beautiful cabinets, crown moulding, really incredible details. But before you can start you have to crawl under the house in a crawl space where the drain lines have been rotted out and leaking.

Fatherhood Friday: A Father’s Advice To His Son, Be A Man

March 21, 2014

BE A MAN I was going to write a great deal this morning, but then I found this.

“If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;

If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don’t deal in lies,
Or being hated, don’t give way to hating,
And yet don’t look too good, nor talk too wise

Complacency Kills: The Reason To Hustle

March 20, 2014

Screen-Shot-2012-05-05-at-1.04.01-PM

“If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it’ is the slogan of the complacent, the arrogant or the scared. It’s an excuse for inaction, a call to non-arms” _Colin Powell

On yesterdays podcast I went into massive detail on the creed that drives this website and podcast. Here it is: “Hustle, Work Strong, Live Smart And Get After It!” If you missed it, please click on the blue link above and have at it. I left out a key point in the section on Hustle. It is this, complacency kills.

Episode 12: New Creed And Your Clear Path! Hustle Now!

March 20, 2014

hustle

Things may come to those who wait, but only the things left by those who hustle. -Abraham Lincoln

I’ve refined the creed of this website and podcast. I really want you to know how important it is to me that you really understand the full vision of what I’m saying on here. So, here’s the new creed.

Hustle, Work Strong, Live Smart And Get After It!

I never have intended to lead you to the impression that I only want you to learn a skilled trade, go to work, and stay there.

Start Early And Teach Often

Seth drill

Never do anything for a student that he he is capable of doing for himself. If you do you, you’ll make him an educational cripple…a pedagogical paraplegic.

-Howard Hendricks

This is a picture of my son that I took yesterday. He was SO excited to be holding my drill that he ran all over the living room “fixing” things for about five minutes. At the end he even figured out that pressing the trigger turned it on! A great time was had by all!
